Members are added to groups at the start of the year if they have taken part in a parkrun or a Power of 10 recorded race in the previous year or, if not, at the point they take part in their first championship event.

Groups are allocated based on best 5K/parkrun/10K/half marathon times over the previous 12 months (logged in a parkrun or on Power of 10) as long as this is representative (if not previous years or the current year may be taken into account) .

The group bands are:

  • Group 1 – 5K/parkrun 31:00>; 10K 1:04:37>; Half 2:22:36
  • Group 2 – 5k/parkrun 29:00-30:59; 10K 1:00:27-1:04:36; Half 2:13:24-2:22:35
  • Group 3 – 5K/parkrun 27:00-28:59; 10K 56:17-1:00:26; Half -2:04:12-2:13:23
  • Group 4 – 5K/parkrun 25:30-26:59; 10K 53:09-56:16; Half 1:57:18-2:04:11
  • Group 5 – 5K/parkrun 24:30-25:29; 10K 51:04-53:08; Half 1:52:42-1:57:17
  • Group 6 – 5K/parkrun 23:30-24:29; 10K 48:59-51:03; Half 1:48:06-1:52:41
  • Group 7 – 5K parkrun 22:00-23:29; 10K 45:52-48:58; Half 1:41:12-1:48:06
  • Group 8 – 5K/parkrun 20:30-21:59; 10K 42:44-45:51; Half 01:34:18-01:41:11
  • Group 9 – 5K/parkrun <20:29: 10K <42:43; Half <1:34:17

Anyone with no parkrun/race time from the previous 12 months will be added to a group once they get a representative time during the current year.

Anyone joining the club once the championship has started is added to a group based on their best time over the 12 months before their first event.

Anyone running a time significantly faster than that for the group they are in early in the year may be moved to the relevant group.

Best efforts are made to have a similar number of members in each group whilst trying to ensure that the time range in the group isn’t significant.
